How is Frank so awesome?
This is the page where I get all fangirly about Iero. If perchance the man himself ever comes by this site by some freak interwebs surfing accident, he'd better move on swiftly or he's going to get a swelled head. :)
Some of the things I like about Frank:
- I think he's an amazing musician. He plays like he's trying to melt his guitar.
- He's got so much energy. He does backing vocals and plays rhythm guitar in one band, is frontman of another, and then there's his business, Skeleton Crew, and his private life. Dear lord!
- He is such a livewire onstage. I haven't seen MCR or Leathermouth play live yet, only on screen, although I live in hope. :) It's clear though that part of MCR's charm is their manic guitarist. He's so exuberant, he's even destroyed the band's drum kit and once kicked his lead singer in the joy department onstage by accident. Hook him up to the national grid, fight climate change, etc.
- He's clearly devoted to Jamia, his longtime partner and now wife. They have been together since approximately the dawn of time, got married a few years back, and at the time of writing (June 2010), Jamia is currently expecting twins. Bless.
- Principles! Iero has some. He's vegan, for one. (Here's a video of him talking about his veganism and ethics in general.)
- Iero is also pro-LGBT rights. Which is quite surprising in a guy from an Italian-American, Roman Catholic background. (Or maybe it's bigoted of me to just assume that? I don't know.) Anyway, equal rights, he's into them. MCR as a group are vocal in their support of LGBT rights; amongst other things they've said that they don't like homophobia and don't want homophobic people to buy their music or go to their shows. Sometimes their support for LGBT rights is more demonstrative. Bexless reports that "The Download festival is a rock festival in the UK. Sadly, here in the motherland, we have something of a reputation for bottling bands at festivals. I think this is a really c*nty thing to do. MCR have had their fair share of festival-bottlings over the years, and the one they recieved at Download 2007 was particularly heavy, exacerbated by the fact that a bunch of people who couldn't get in to see Korn had come to vent their frustration on MCR. As well as bottling, festivals in the UK tend to breed homophobia. This is because it's an opportunity for a bunch of losers to get together and shout at stuff that makes them feel inadequate. One of the things they particularly like to shout at MCR is the overwhelmingly imaginative, 'FAGGOTS.'" Frank's response to this crap? To grab Gerard and lay a smooch on him. Hee!
- Iero is not one of those rock stars who get famous and immediately move to LA and buy a mansion in Beverly Hills. He was born and raised in New Jersey, and he still lives there. He even has NJ tattooed on him in a couple of places. That's dedication.
- The man is not afraid of a needle. Iero's skin is a walking gallery of art. Check out the tattoo page for the details.
- One of my favourite things about Frank is that he deliberately got a large tattoo done on his neck so that he'd never been able to get a conventional job again.
- And finally, on a more shallow note, I also think he's brutally hot.
