Reasons To Be Cheerful
Stuff I enjoy, things I like, people I love, and other things I am grateful for.
Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Architecture, especially the lantern in Ely Cathedral. I love looking at buildings. They are beautiful and useful.
Art galleries. In very small doses.
The art on my bedroom wall.
Handbags. It's a fetish. What can I say?
Body piercings. I've taken nearly all of mine out, but I still like them on other people.
The borders of dreamland.
Bourbon. Wild Turkey, for preference.
The colour blue. Royal blue, midnight blue, twilight blue, deep dark blue.
The stereo in my car.
My Indian and Egyptian carpets.
Chemists, pharmacies, drugstores. It's probably the proximity to large amounts of soap.
The scent of coffee (but not the taste).
Delphi in Greece. Amazing, amazing, amazing place.
Fanfiction. My drug of choice.
Fresh fruit smoothies.
Glass recycling centres. A legitimate reason to smash things? Works for me!
Halfway down the third cocktail on a Saturday night.
Having been born in a relatively democratic country.
Holidays, especially the anticipation of same.
Listmaking -- obviously. :)
Museums. My favourites are the Archaeological Museum in Athens in Greece, and the British Museum in London in England. They are treasuries.
Music. My favourite, instant-good-mood-in-a-can songs are: Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves, Connected by the Stereo MCs, Galileo by the Indigo Girls, and Back Porch by the Presidents of the United States of America.
Nail varnish, especially the royal blue glittery type.
My niece. She's awesome.
A fresh page in a notebook.
My honeydrop pendant from Crete.
Pens, especially fibre tipped or fountain.
The island temple of Philae in Egypt.
Pretty boys. Prime examples: Jensen Ackles, the sex-on-a-stick Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling, the most beautiful man alive. Yum!
Reading. My favourite books are Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Hoeg, Konin: A Quest by Theo Richmond, The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger, Break In by Dick Francis, Flood by Andrew Vachss, Gyn/Ecology by Mary Daly, and Dreaming The Dark by Starhawk. I also love Ellis Peters, Terry Pratchett, and P. G. Wodehouse.
Scotland, except Inverness.
Sex and drugs and rock'n'roll.
Peaceful Patchouli shower gel by Kiss My Face.
Smoky clubs at 4 a.m.
My cheap-Nepalese-counterfeit Snoopy money box.
Chocolate flavour soymilk. Nom.
Soap. I really love soap.
Spectacles. I'd really be fucked without mine.
Subverting the dominant paradigm.
The Sunday papers.
Thailand, and thai food. Sweetcorn cakes. Mmm.
Tofu. I trust the tofu.
The Tower of London. Condensed history. Makes double.
Vigo, a five storey club in Belfast city. I wonder if it's still open?
Waking up. Another chance to get it right.
My titanium watch. Doesn't freak my skin out, plus it's waterproof and solar powered.
Ice cold mineral water.
Having a reliable water supply. This should be number one on the list. Jeez.
The woods near my house.
