About Éomer

Eomer

Éomer is four years older than his sister, born to Éomund and Théodwyn, who was sister to king Théoden. Both of Éomer's parents died when he and his sister were very young, leaving them in the care of their uncle.

Life growing up was certainly harsh for Éomer, as Rohan was continually under attack, and had been betrayed by its ally Saruman. Éomer's uncle eventually fell under the evil influence of Gríma Wormtongue, who also had his eyes set upon Éowyn, much to her and her brother's distress.

However, Éomer was often away, for he was made Third Marshall of the Mark at age 26, and patrolled Rohan with the Riders of Eastfold, fighting orcs. Two years later, the king's only son Théodred was killed in battle, making Éomer heir to the throne of Rohan. Shortly thereafter, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas arrived in Rohan and received help from him. This assistance was repaid when they brought Gandalf to free Théoden King from Wormtongue's grip.

Éomer went on to fight to victory at the Battle of the Hornburg (Helm's Deep), and also at the Pelennor Fields, where upon the death of Théoden he was made King of Rohan.

Éomer ruled as king for 65 years, and was given the honorary surname Éadig. He married Lothíriel, a woman of Gondor, and was succeeded by his son Elfwinë upon his death.
